Our Budget

The state has a spending problem. According to Budget Breakdown, over the past decade, median household income has grown by 58%, while revenue has increased by 94%. Meanwhile, the budget has ballooned by 114%. This is not sustainable and will only result in one thing: higher taxes.

To fix this issue, we need to take a look at where the money is being spent. New programs to help everyone are a great solution on paper, but like every household and business, the state has to spend within its means. The last budget allocated over $100 million for homeless prevention, yet we still have a major issue. Where is the money being spent?

First, we need to redefine what calls dispatch to police and what calls need a social worker.  Police officers are not trained to deal with every situation involving people with mental or physical disabilities.  A social worker, accompanied by a police officer when appropriate, should be the first response when dealing with mental health crises.

Second, laws that prevent police from doing their jobs are getting in the way of public safety. If a car is stolen, or a squatter takes over a house, police should have the capability to apprehend those in violation

Getting a road fixed in Washinton takes way too long. and we have seen what delay in road maintenance has accomplished. The West Seattle Bridge was shut down. Bridges in flood zones are in need of repair. Potholes and broken pavement make driving some roads unsafe. Preventative maintenance reduces the long term cost and keeps roads and bridges safe. Also putting height restriction barriers before low bridges will help reduce the collision rate.

What I would do to fix our issues

Budget shortfall

We can balance the budget by actually dealing with homelessness.  Washington spends substantial amounts of public money addressing homelessness, yet homelessness remains a serious problem, we need to put a stronger emphasis on mental health over prison.

Evidence shows that some treatment and rehabilitation programs can reduce recidivism and produce significant savings compared with incarceration. Also increasing the car tab fee for residence outside of King and Pierce Counties to help fund road and public transit options.

Mental Health

Budget shortfall

Mental health is anything from bi-polar to alcohol and drug addiction. With proper treatment, rehab facilities, and involuntary facilities for those who have committed a violent crime or are a danger to themselves or others, will increase public safety, reduce the prison system, and allow the police to focus on actual criminals.

Property Taxes

Budget shortfall

Property Taxes

To avoid the vulnerable from losing their homes. I would cap the property tax on homes bought before the year 2000 worth less than 1m. I would also increase the tax on homes worth more than 1 million and add a tax on condos worth more than 1 million as well.

LGBTQ+

Infrastructure

Property Taxes

The more we teach kids that being LGBTQ is ok, the more our youth will grow to respect those they see as different. This starts with keeping a strong separation of church and state.

The Bible is used as a scapegoat for people's bigotry. The more protection we can place on vulnerable communities the safer our society will become. There is no place for hate in Washington.

Public land needs to stay public. No selling to loggers, no allowing licenses to hunt protected animals, no placing violent traps. Our Forest need protecting from this current admin. We also need to inspect and fix all vulnerable levy's. When the water crests it causes immense harm to the communities. From property damage to loss of income. We live in a state with a high rain fall, its time we start placing more emphasis on prevention.

We need a pot hole team with the wdot. Fixing a road is major project. But fixing a pot hole is a single day fix. Increase the number of inspectors for bridges and overpasses. The earlier we see a problem, the cheaper it is to fix with the lease amount of congestion caused by the roads outage.
